Following
the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) review their
guidance is that patients should be fully advised about Helium
Plasma Ablation before treatment. There is now a booklet available
which gives information on all available treatments for endometriosis.
Please go to our medical papers section where is it available
for download.
As
with all medical conditions we recommend early diagnosis and treatment
for endometriosis.
2005
is already proving to be a successful year for Helica Instruments
Ltd. With the peer review and publication of two medical papers
which confirm the safety and effectiveness of the Helica TC in
the treatment of endometriosis. The published papers can be downloaded
from our medical papers section of this website.
Helica
are confident that more randomised clinical studies taking place
at the moment will have been completed, peer reviewed and published
by the end of 2005.
This
proven clinical
evidence will support Helica's safety, therapeutic effect and
its cost effectiveness compared to any other electro surgical
device throughout the world.
Recognised
centres of excellence currently carrying out these scientifically
randomised clinical studies are:
Castle Hill Hospital, Hull.
Frimley Park Hospital, Camberley.
Princess Royal Hospital, Farnborough.
Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield.
University Hospital, Nottingham.
North Florida Regional Women's Centre, Gainsville, Florida
The
Helium Thermal Coagulator (Helica) is a revolutionary electro
surgical device used in surgery that produces a cauterising effect,
as does diathermy and laser.
The
Helica operates on very low electrical power combined with Helium,
the effect of which produces a plasma beam that emanates from
the distal end of a plastic sterile probe. It is the plasma beam
that produces the coagulating effect at the working end of the
instrument.
The
opinions of many surgeons are, the lower the power of the instrument
the more control they have, the greater control they have, the
safer the instrument.
The
Helica operates on very much lower energy levels compared to any
other surgical instrument currently available.
The
Gynaecological community were the first surgical discipline to
identify the surgical benefits of the Helica as being an ideal
laparoscopic tool for surgically treating endometriosis.
To
date over 10,000 patients have been successfully treated with
the Helica without a single surgical complication being reported.
There
are nearly a hundred (100) centres throughout the UK who have
installed the Helica.
To
date the Helium Plasma Ablation has been successfully used within
the fields of Cardiothoracic surgery, General surgery, Gynaecology,
Orthopaedic surgery and Opthalmic surgery.
There
are a number of recognised regional Helica laparoscopic training
centres throughout the UK. Surgeons wishing to participate in
any of the advanced laparoscopic courses, please contact Helica
Instruments for details.
